Bound in at the end and properly mount on sheets to match the size of the main book is a copy of Norden's Description of Hartfordshire, with a map. Also bound in is a copy of Amwell : A Descriptive Poem, second edition, 1776, but this lacks at least the last page, 22 pages only. Also bound in at the front is a Buck view of the Abbey & an actual manuscript account of St. Albans Abbey which runs to 8 pages. . Also mounted in at the front of the book is a document presented to Thomas Baskerfield, swearing him in as Burgess Gratis and signed by John Boys. It is signed by John Boys and has a watercolour of his coat of arms and a watercolour of the Abbey. On a vellum document. 1803. A note in the front of the books says that the book was bought at a sale in 1817. The book has Baskerfield, Redbourn, written on the verso of the front free endpaper. The book has pencil notes in some places and has some extra illustration mounted throughout. The books lacks the rear cover which may have had the last pages of the Amwell poem attached to it. Front cover is detached. The spine and front cover is a near contemporary full leather binding, the spine has raised bands and gilt decorations in the compartments. Spine still attached. Only a fair copy externally. Contents generally nice and clean. A unique and fascinating extra illustrated copy with an interesting ownership. Illustrated with a large hand coloured map of Hertfordshire, a Buck view of the monastery. Other plates, etc. (illustrator).…
