Devenu pasteur, il séjourne en Alsace puis en Allemagne. Profondément mystique, il lit Tauler, Thomas à Kempis et enfin Antoinette Bourignon qui le marque profondément, à tel point qu'il rejoint Hambourg pour la rencontrer. Il publie certaines traductions dont l'Imitation de Jésus-Christ mais il est surtout connu pour son édition des oeuvres d'Antoinette Bourignon en 19 volumes (1679-1686, voir le numéro 109 du présent catalogue) et de celles de Madame Guyon (1704-1713). Il est aussi l'auteur de l'Economie divine, véritable manuel de théologie mystique qui connut immédiatement plusieurs traductions. C'est à ce traité qu'est consacrée la présente thèse qui en fait l'analyse et la critique. Le précieux exemplaire que nous proposons a été offert à Robert Amadou qui s'intéressa naturellement de près à cet auteur.
