Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book delves into the intricate world of yacht building, offering a unique blend of practical guidance and scientific theory. The author, a keen observer of the eraââ â¢s maritime practices, argues that the haphazard approach to yacht construction prevalent in his time often leads to disappointing results. He aims to establish a more systematic and scientific approach to yacht design, drawing on the knowledge gleaned from successful yachts of the day and presenting a framework for informed decision-making. He challenges the prevailing reliance on mere experience and intuition, advocating for the use of accurate drawings and calculations as essential tools for the builder. The book meticulously examines key elements of yacht design, including displacement, length, breadth, depth, and the form of the load water line, providing a framework for understanding their interrelationships and impact on a yacht's performance. The author analyzes the rationale behind various design choices, such as the preferred shape of the bow, the role of sheer, and the significance of the midship section, offering practical advice to guide the constructor. By scrutinizing the design principles behind the fastest yachts of his time, the author reveals the importance of incorporating scientific understanding into the art of yacht building, ultimately contributing to the advancement of nautical engineering during a period of rapid technological progress.
