A lovely copy of the very scarce first edition of Palliser Hudson's posthumously published study of the history of Wolfelee House, a grand home his father bought for him. A vanishingly scarce first edition, in the publisher's original morocco binding.Illustrated with a frontispiece, with one additional plate. Collated, complete.Ralph Palliser Milbanke Hudson describes the house his father purchased in 1917, Wolfelee House in Wolfelee, in the Scottish borders. Hudson describes the history of the house from its foundations, such as in the time of Sir Walter Scott, and its previous owners, the Elliots.A lengthy inscription, dated 2016, to the front free endpaper, from one 'J.R.E.B', offers a wealth of context to this work: 'Wolfelee was demolished in 1977 following a disastrous fire which gutted to husk. The house and estate of over 3000 acres was bought by the author's father in 1917 for about £3000. It was sold following the author's death in the 1920s. He had been given the estate by his father. I stayed there in the 1960s when it was a hotel'. In the publisher;s original full morocco binding. Boards bright. Significant fading to back strip, as is common with deep shades of morocco. Small loss to back strip head. Inscription to front free endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages exceptionally clean and bright. Very Good Indeed. Not Stated (illustrator). book.…
