The 'Praeparatio' consists of fifteen books which have been completely preserved. Eusebius considered it an introduction to Christianity for pagans. But its value for many later readers is more because Eusebius studded this work with so many lively fragments from historians and philosophers which are nowhere else preserved. Here alone is preserved Pyrrho's translation of the Buddhist 'Three marks of existence' upon which Pyrrho based Pyrrhonism. Here alone is a summary of the writings of the Phoenician priest Sanchuniathon of which the accuracy has been shown by the mythological accounts found on the Ugaritic tables. Here alone is the account from Diodorus Siculus's sixth book of Euhemerus' wondrous voyage to the island of Panchaea where Euhemerus purports to have found his true history of the gods. And here almost alone is preserved writings of the neo-Platonist philosopher Atticus along with so much else. / DEMONSTRATIO EVANGELICA (Proof of the Gospel) is closely connected to the Praeparatio and comprised originally twenty books of which ten have been completely preserved as well as a fragment of the fifteenth *[in this edition marked 'Liber XI', see above]. Here Eusebius treats of the person of Jesus Christ. The work was probably finished before 311.''(quote from wikipedia 'Eusebius of Caesarea').

Hardcover. Editio Altera, edited by Joseph Scaliger. Compiled in the early 4th century, the Chronological Canons forms the second part of the Chronicon of Eusebius and furnishes a synchronism of the historical material in parallel columns, the equivalent of a parallel timeline, where each line is a year. It is the longest preserved list of Olympic victors, containing however mainly the stadion (running race) winners from 776 B.C. to A.D. 217. The text is in Latin and Greek. Folio: [xlviii], 197, [21], 85, 435, 260, [18] p. In a period full leather armorial binding (unidentified), with decorative gilt stamping and six raised bands. Faint evidence of moisture along the extremities of the first few leaves. The front joint is cracked, though the binding remains quite sound. Some general scuffing and shelfwear, with a bit of loss to the top of the front joint and spine head, and a few minor stains.

Paginazione: (36)-214 pp.-1 fb. ; 287 pp. ; 22-(1) pp.- 2 ff.nn.-169 ff.-(3) pp. Pagina di titolo con grande cornice incisa di Hans Holbein (" The beautiful title border by Hans Holbein the younger shows Petrus on the left, Paulus on the right, the symbols of the four Evangelists in the corners, the Holy Child riding on a lion in the lower portion, the coat of arms of the city of Basel at the head, flanked by two basilisks, with a banderole "Inclyta Basilea". This border was first cut for the Adam Petri edition of Luther's New Testament (Basle 1523)".

Buch. Condition: Neu. nach der Bestellung gedruckt Neuware - Printed after ordering - The life of Constantine was written by Eusebius of Caesarea (260 - 339 AD) in the 4th century in honour of Constantine the Great (272 - 337 AD). However, Eusebius died before he could finish the work. Nevertheless the book is considered a valuable work both for providing a semi-bibliographic account of Constantine from someone who knew him personally, and for providing a rare window into the religious practices of the early Christian church. The work also includes Eusebius' own concerns about differences of opinion in church doctrine. The work is considered a valuable primary source for understanding how Christianity first started to become the state religion under its, perhaps most famous Roman emperor, Constantine, who later would be declared a saint by both the Catholic and Orthodox churches. The source text for this book is: 'Church history: Life of Constantine the Great; and Oration in Praise of Constantine,' New York: Christian Literature Co.; Oxford: Parker, 1890; translated by Ernest Cushing Richardson (1860-1939); edited by Henry Wace (1836-1924) and Philip Schaff (1819-1893). This version of the work includes the original footnotes along with illustrations of Constantine on coins and in artwork.
