Le 17 décembre 1645 le bureau des pauvres - institution municipale - publia une ordonnance en forme de règlement touchant l'instruction, la nourriture et l'entretien des filles indigentes de sept à dix-sept ans menacées par les périls où les exposait la mendicité de leurs parents. Il était disposé que ces filles seraient enfermées et instruites dans la maison et enclos de la Maresquerie « et qui a esté fait exprès pour renfermer les pauvres ».
