12mo. [4],3-38, [4] pp. With 7 marbled paper samples tipped-in, woodcut-illust. colophon, decorative borders on a few leaves. Quarter-tan cloth over marbled boards, printed label on front cover (very slight shelfwear, slight rubbing), NF copy. First edition, 1 of 225 copies printed of this nicely executed sample book on marbled papers, and includes note at the end of text referring to the fact that the author and the binder had varied the samples without documentation of the copies, so all copies are in effect unique in some manner. Thrift issued the work in order to widen the audience and engage interest in marbling paper, and writes that there is a "real dearth of readily accessible information on the topic," and the most practical work by Halfer is exceedingly scarce. He recommends rectified turpentine, and a mix of bookbinders' flixble glue, pure glycerine, and water for the base dramatically turning from traditional methods, and also advocates for the bookbinder as artist. See: Emily Pazar, The Progress of the Art: Paper Marbling in the United States, 1880-1950, pp. 75-78.

No Binding. Condition: Fine. 22 handmade papers, including: 11 Hayle Mill handmade papers; 2 A. Millbourn handmade papers, and others by J.Batchelor, Arnold & Foster; Fabriano and Wookey Hole (these possibly of later date). Fine condition with very detailed desciptions. In the summer of 1953 the bailiffs visited The Latin Press and removed presses, type and paper in payment of debts. The smaller Albion and a quantity of paper was moved down to the Old Smoke House that stood close to Sven's Tower. Kim Taylor (Ark Press) was given access to them to practise printing. On leaving St Ives he was given a box of these papers to take with him. Some of these remained in his possession until passed to the noted Guido morris collector Michael Bridge in 2003. Identification of the sheets was undertaken in 2004.
