Afioun est un terme générique dans le monde musulman pour l'opium et le nom de Morfinay est un apax, probablement inventé par l'auteur en référence à la morphine. Nombreuses visites et scènes d'intérieur mais il n'est fait aucune référence dans l'ouvrage aux fûmeries d'opium non plus qu'aux Jeunes Turcs.
