The 1889 1nd 1890 collected reprints of the annual conventions of the Protestant Episcopal Church of New Jersey for the years 1785 though 1…816. Bound with these are the historical sketches of the parishes represented in those conventions with short biographies of the lay delegates attending. These 1889-90 reprints ofm the eraly journals are made historically invaluable by the addition of a name and church index, and edited correspondence regarding the founding of the diocese, acceptance of the American Prayer Book and parish histories.

Coggeshall) to head of title page. $350. * A popular American legal manual issued by different printers, the Conductor Generalis was based largely on Burn and other English sources. "Conductor Generalis" is a Latin phrase meaning "a general guide." The first by Parker was published in 1764. His 1788 edition, the fourth, is significant because it was the first published after the ratification of the Constitution and "adapted to these United States." Cohen records twelve editions, of varying lengths and contents, published between 1711 and 1819. Compiled by James Parker, former Justice of the Peace in Middlesex… County, New Jersey, the work was based primarily on English sources, including Richard Burn's JUSTICE OF THE PEACE, first published in England in the mid-18th century. Organized alphabetically, the work covers the broadest range of topics including arraignments and arrests, bail, gaming, highways and homicide, indictment, larceny, oaths, pardons, search warrants, vagrants, and warrants. A second part of the text is devoted to the duties of sheriffs, under-sheriffs, juries, and jailers. A fine source for the practice of everyday law in the early Federal period. EVANS 21359.
