Unbound. Condition: Fine. Vintage gelatin silver photograph. Measuring approximately 11" x 14". The photograph has faint creasing in blank corner margins only, and three tiny tears, in lower margin, else the image is very good or better with nice contrast to all cameo portraits. Prints nine rows of cameo portraits of 148 Postal Workers including seventeen African-American employees, of the U. S. Post Office in Roanoke with a central vignette image of the post office. The 148 cameo portraits show each employee from the shoulders up, each person identified by name, beneath the cameo portrait. All male employees are dressed in suits and ties. The work force consisted of both men and women, most of whom are Caucasian, with a total seventeen African-American workers (thirteen men and four women). All the African-American employees are "segregated" in a single row, at the very bottom edge of the portrait. An interesting image. The Post Office was one of the earliest government institutions to make some sort of effort to hire African-Americans.
