Addressed to 'Rev P [sic] Tuckwell / College School / Taunton', and signed 'Edwd Wm Cox'. In good condition, on aged paper. Folded twice for postage. He begins: 'Dr Sir / It gives me very great p…leasure to aid the fund of the College School. After its long hybernation 43 years ago, I was the first pupil received on its revival. & within its walls I obtained the larger portion of my education, following the then master, (Rev H Forster) to Oxford. I won the first prize given there & have it now, holding it in reverence.' He continues with reference to his 'personal attachment to the College School', which even surpasses 'the interest I take in whatever concerns the well being of the Town, with which I hope to become politically connected', and prompts him to wish to 'do what I can to promote its wellbeing'. He hopes to be 'permitted at some early occasion to assist in the distribution of the prizes'. Postscripts concern the cheque he is sending, and an invitation by him to put an advertisement for the school 'in my journals free of cost'.
