Fabulous collection of medieval and modern Jewish legends, folk-sayings, myths and biographies of famous Jews. Wolf Pascheles (1814-1857) was a Czech Jewish author, publisher, and bookseller. His greatest success was the Sippurim which went through many editions with contributions by Solomon Kohn, R. J. Fuerstenthal, I. M. Jost, L. Weisel, D. Ehrmann, Israel Fürth, M. Klapp, and many others. Age wear, scuffing and minor staining on binding. Head and tail of spine slightly bumped. Usual age toning on leaves, three-inch closed tear on free front endpaper on Vol. I. Sporadic foxing throughout. Title-page in Vol. I states "Vierte Auflage "(fourth edition). Text in German, Gothic script. First published in 1847 under the title "Galerie der Sipurim." Binding in good, interior in overall very good condition. Scarce.
