Mild toning and soiling to edges; slipcase slightly bumped and faded. No. F45 (of 50 copies) but lacking the additional portfolio. The three original lithographs in the book itself are present, in addition to the 51 full-page reproductions. Clean, tight and unmarked. Very neat -- a sound and handsome copy. Catalogue raisonnee.

    1st edition hardbacks with dust jacket Nice copies quarto 138, 194pp., colour & b/w pls., indexes, Mario Avati (1921 - 2009) Born in Monaco to Italian parents, Mario Avati attended the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris and studied with Marc Chagall. He began printmaking in earnest in the late 1940s, and about ten years later began to focus on mezzotint, experimenting with and mastering techniques that brought him significant international recognition and placed him at the forefront of his discipline. Limited edition; these being Nos. 259/650 & 437/650.
