Rebound Hard Cover. Condition: Good. No Jacket. Abraham Hersh (illustrator). First Trade. This ex-library, 384-page offering in G condition is American Boy's Omnibus by Stanley Pashko, published by The Junior Literary Guild and Greenberg:Publisher in 1945. I firmly believe that the reason this offering is in just "Good" condition/shape is that it is a book that has received much, much use, and perhaps by fairly young users(which would explain its condition even further!). Library markings are in evidence, endpapers front and back as well as text's pages show some modest yellowing, at age 66, and I notice 1-2 pages are missing a bit of their lower right corners. Also, it was necessary for me to clear-tape back into its proper place page 371-372, which had become totally separated out/removed from the volume. This period piece from the America of the mid-forties provides an extensive look into what types of activities our boys were expected to occupy/fill their leisure time with. From Dedication Page, "What do you most like to do? Go camping? Try out for the school team? Make things? Do magic tricks? Whatever your choice is, this book has good ideas and suggestions for you, for here are all kinds of things to do--in summer and in winter, on sunny days or stormy ones, in town or in the country, on land or in the water. In addition to all these fine suggestions and plans, there are many illustrations [done by Abraham Hersh] to make clear the directions you read. The author knows what boys are interested in because he himself is not only a versatile athlete and lover of outdoor activities, he is a member of the staff of Boy's Life Magazine, published by the Boy Scouts of America, and so knows boys in all parts of this far-flung country." Presented in 18 chapters, some of the areas for activities include woodcraft, camping and the outdoors, first aid, craftsmanship, signaling and codes, the boy scientist, and hobbies. I'm betting this stuff works quite well now, just as it did when it originally hit the bookstores. Thank you!!
