Contact seller5-star sellerHardcover. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. Fine unread condition color illustrated boards contained in a very good condition non price-clipped color photographic dust jacket. Includes Introduction regarding The Poems of Doctor Zhivago. Illustrated with drawings by Bill Greer, plus front and rear endpaper drawings. A 1/8th inch chip to the lower right front jacket tip and a touch of rubbing to the upper right front jacket tip (see photographs). A vintage 11/21/69 gift inscription is neatly scripted on the blank verso of the first free front endpaper. "Winter blanketed the land and made a snow palace of the secluded country home at Varykino. The wind moaned outside; the wolves howled. Warm candleglow melted a patch of ice on the window. And Yuri Zhivago, with the beautiful Lara sleeping nearby, wrote poetry. He wrote of the joy of love, the pain of parting, the hope of religious experience. Thus, within the framework of his magnificent novel Doctor Zhivago, Boris Pasternak created these evocative poems attributed to his title character. As an integral part of the book, Pasternak's poems illustrate Zhivago's view of the world. Apart from the novel, they are moving thoughts from the heart of a man in love with life. The translation of Doctor Zhivago in 1957 ended 25 years of literary exile for Boris Pasternak. Although most of the Zhivago poems had been published in Russian journals, under the Stalinist regime Russia's outstanding poet of the century was forced to devote himself to translating foreign poets rather than creating original works. Despite these privations, Boris Pasternak's international reputation continued to grow. In 1958 he was awarded the Nobel Prize for literature, but was unable to accept the Prize because to do so would have required him to leave his beloved country for the remainder of his life. He died May 30, 1960, in the Soviet Union." - from the inner front and rear jacket flaps. Greer, Bill (drawings); Peter, Harald (book design) (illustrator).…

24 pp.; 23.5 x 31 cm.; accordion; black-and-white & color; edition size unknown; unsigned and unnumbered; offset-printed "Commissioned to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Central Park, Cai's Light Cycle fireworks display lit the New York sky with a circle of explosions on a September night in 2003. This 24-page accordion book documents it all from planning to performance, executed by the famous Grucci fireworks family. Separating the book's hardbound cloth covers reveals a continuous folded sheet with reproductions of Cai's gunpowder drawings (made by burning scant gunpowder on paper) on one side and photographs of the event and text on the other. In an interview, the artist compares his drawings to "love-making" and explains some technical aspects of his displays, such as a computer chip in each explosive shell." -- publisher's statement.
