This book is in very good condition - edges spotty; two light water stains on the rfep. Originally published in the US in 1960 by The Bobbs-Merrill Company and then as a paperback by Signet (The New American Library). Spine has some edge rubbing. Small crease to the bottom right corner of the front cover but otherwise only light surface and edge wear to the covers. Browning to the page edges with a black felt pen mark across the bottom edges. The pages are a little browned around the edges with light spotting at the front and back of the book. There is a vertical crease down the title page and small creases to two top corners at the front but otherwise the pages are clean and unmarked. Motorcycle toughs terrorize the California highways in this novel by a surprisingly matronly-looking author (although, as the one-time "proprietor of a typical 'candy store,' she had many chances to observe and study young people like these"). The jacket design -- indeed the book itself -- is clearly a riff on the Marlon Brando character in THE WILD ONE, who was middle-class America's iconic "biker-gangster" until supplanted by the less soulful (and hairer) Hell's Angels.
