Hardcover. Condition: Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Near Fine. 2nd Edition. Up The Glens: Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry Highlanders 1783-1994; by Lieutenant Colonel W. Boss, CD (Period 1783-1951) and Brigadier General W. J. Patterson, OMM, CD (Period 1952-1994); published by The Old Book Store, Cornwall, Ontario, Canada, 1995. (2nd edition, first thus) This book contains the entire first edition of the Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry Highlanders, 1783-1951, published in 1952. Known errors have been corrected and new material on the 1st Battalion in Northwest Europe, 1944-1945, has been added. The history of the Regiment has been brought forward from 1951 to 1994 (by W. J. Patterson). Foreword to the First Edition This is more than a Regimental History. It is also a story, going back nearly two centuries, of families who settled in, and animated, the Counties of Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry. The original settlers were, largely, of military background and of Highland stock. In these circumstances it was inevitable that their descendants inherited characteristics which produced successful citizens in peace and outstanding soldiers in war. The inspiring record of the Regiment in war is in the pages of this history. In operations it never failed to take its objective and never lost a yard of ground. I am proud to have been associated with those who served in it during those years of war. I value, tremendously, the bond of union I now enjoy as its Honorary Colonel. H. D. G. Crerar, General. 20 January 1952. From the Foreword to the Second Edition Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry Highlanders are fortunate to be given an opportunity to record their history over the last 43 years, the Regiment is indebted to Robert Rothgeb, The Old Book Store, Corneall, for making it possible to reprint the first edition, now a collector's item. This publication provides the means not only to acknowledge some of the sacrifices made by Glens that were inadvertently missed in the 1952 edition, but also to bring the story of the Glens forward to the present day. The more one reads the accounts of the services of those who have gone before, the more one realizes the debt Canadians owe to the. W. J. Patterson, Brigadier General, Honorary Colonel. 6 May 1995. This large book, 300 pages measuring 305mm X 228mm, is in fine condition, in a near-fine dust jacket that is now enclosed in a protective mylar wrap. Illustrated with map endpapers. This large and heavy book may require additional postage.
