Paperback. Condition: New. Learning Archaeology is designed for undergraduate archaeology students, helping them develop interpretive skills in the classroom through problem-oriented, active learning exercises. This book brings together case studies drawn from real archaeological research so students can understand (and wrestle w…ith) how archaeology is practiced, the kinds of questions that can be addressed with archaeological data (and their limits), and the often contested place of the discipline in the modern world. Experts working across the globe and on a variety of topics have written chapters addressing critical archaeological issues or questions using data and examples from their own research projects. Several chapters are co-authored by experienced practitioners working outside of the academy in archaeology and heritage-related fields, including Tribal or First Nations members. Importantly, each author or group of authors situates their archaeological problem within the social and political context of their practice. With ethical and socio-political considerations woven through each chapter, the book is structured into three sections-Excavation, Analytical Methods, and Archaeology in the Contemporary World-and provides both a comprehensive view of archaeological method and an understanding of the role that archaeological knowledge has in contemporary society.Learning Archaeology is for undergraduate archaeology students and suitable for use in introductory courses in archaeology.

Trade paperback. Condition: Very good. Presumed First Edition, First printing. 58 pages. Illustrations (some with color). Warships Number 26. Special with 8 Extra Pages. Complete coverage, inside and out, of the Imperial Japanese Navy's complete heavy cruiser fleet during WWII. Detailed photographic coverage from all aspects inc…luding never before published photos! Heavily illustrated with black-and-white photographs accompanied with a detailed caption. 2 pages of full color profile paintings with various ensigns and paint schemes. Line art (drawings) of ships, armament and aircraft. Maya was one of four Takao-class heavy cruisers, active in World War II with the Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN). These were the largest and most modern cruisers in the Japanese fleet, and were intended to form the backbone of a multipurpose long-range strike force. These ships were fast, powerful and heavily armed, with enough firepower to hold their own against any cruiser in any other navy in the world. Her sister ships were Takao, Atago and Ch kai. The Takao-class cruisers were an improved version of the My k -class design, incorporating technical elements learned with the development of the light cruiser Y bari. They had a distinctive profile with a large, raked main smokestack, and a smaller, straight, second smokestack. The Takao class had thicker armor, dual-purpose main guns which could be used against aircraft, and torpedo launchers moved to the upper deck for greater safety. However, as with its predecessors, the Takao class was also top-heavy. Don Greer (Color), and David Gebhardt (Line Art) a (illustrator).
