Paperback. Condition: new. Paperback. Ecological restoration, although a relatively new endeavour compared to other disciplines, has gained significant momentum during the last decade as accelerating global change becomes more apparent. It is now widely accepted by the scientific community that to avoid further devastating effec…ts of climate change and biodiversity loss, humanity must determinedly move more to protect and restore natural ecosystems. Many restoration efforts of the past have been ad hoc, site and situation-specific and have often failed to achieve desired outcomes, but over the last decade, many countries are allocating increasingly significant amounts of financial investment towards restoration with the goal of achieving more systematic and predictable outcomes. Today, activities related to restoring ecosystems, natural assets and biodiversity are a global focus. This book covers a wide range of topics related to ecological restoration including for grasslands, wetlands, temperate and tropical forests and arid zones. Importantly, it also focuses on ecological restoration in human-disturbed landscapes such as for urban areas, farmlands, mine sites and transport corridors. It highlights the necessity for evidence-based approaches that are both nuanced and complementary with prescriptions for people-based restoration, that is socially inclusive and cognisant of historic and current community sentiment. Ambitious landscape and continental scale targets for ecological restoration have been set across the globe. However, without practical guidelines developed from restoration evaluations from the recent past to follow, future efforts are unlikely to be successful, nor -expected targets met. To that end, this book reviews and highlights a large number and variety of restoration stories from around the world. Most are presented as reader-friendly case studies, that feature innovative and systematic techniques for undertaking species-rich ecological restoration.Together they provide inspiration for current and future professionals and offer unique glimpses into state-of-the-art practice for this critically important discipline Many restoration efforts of the past have been ad hoc, site and situation-specific and have often failed to achieve desired outcomes, but over the last decade, many countries are allocating increasingly significant amounts of financial investment towards restoration with the goal of achieving more systematic and predictable outcomes. Pub Year 2009, See images for condition. About the book >.>.> The Secret Land: The Origins of Arthurian Legend and the Grail Quest by Paul…Broadhurst explores the connections between the legendary figure of King Arthur, the landscape of Britain, and ancient celestial patterns. The book posits that the Great Bear constellation has a significant correlation with locations tied to Arthurian myths, particularly Tintagel, where Arthur is said to have been born. The correlation rests on the interpretation of the name Arthur, which translates to Bear in ancient Celtic, suggesting that the constellation serves as an earthly reflection of the heavenly order represented in these legends.Broadhurst delves into the deeper implications of these connections, highlighting how many legendary sites across Britain align with the Great Bear?s configuration in the sky. The narrative draws attention to the presence of giant totem animals etched into the landscape and discusses the shamanic origins of early Arthurian mythology, indicating a profound understanding of cosmic influences on life on Earth. The text recounts how these ancient secrets may have been preserved through generations, integrating historical perspectives that span prehistoric times to the medieval era.As a seasoned writer and researcher, Broadhurst brings an academic rigour to his exploration of these themes, intertwining myths with geographical insights. He invites readers to reconsider their understanding of Arthurian legends and the mystical relationship between the heavens and the land, revealing the layers of meaning embedded in the folklore and landscapes of Britain. The book serves as both a guide and an invitation to uncover the cosmic narratives that shape the historical and mythical landscape of King Arthur?s story.

Paperback. Condition: Good. signed by paul broadhurst on the title page, paperback, has some foxing discoloration marks on the edges --- Building on their earlier investigation in The Sun and the Serpent, Paul Broadhurst and Hamish Miller turn their attention to a vast alignment of sacred sites running across Europe and into the… Near East, linking shrines associated with the Archangel Michael and the Greek solar deity Apollo. Their journey traces this geomantic axis from Ireland through Cornwall, France, Italy, and Greece to Israel, examining the mythology, history, and earth energies connected to each location. The work blends fieldwork, dowsing observations, and folklore to explore the spiritual geography that has linked these ancient places of worship across cultures and millennia. Signed by Author.
