Print From original Oil on Canvas, 38.1 x 46 cm. Bequeathed by the Hon. Mrs. A.E. Pleydell-Boverie Through the Friends of the Tate Gallery, 1968 Art; Prints; Lithograph; Paul Cūzanne was one of four great painters now known as the Post- Impressionists. (The others were Seurat, van Gogh and Gauguin). Starting from Impressionism each of them made of it something new and different, adding to it elements they felt it lacked, in Cūzanne's case the feel of solid form and structure. 'L'Allee du Jas de Bouffan', the garden of Cūzanne's parental home in Aix, is a fascinating little picture from the precise time when he began to develop his mature style. The scene is organized into a solid geometry of verticals and horizontals and even the bunches of leaves on the trees are made tangible and block like. At the same time all the quality of colour and light of Impressionism is retained. 8 X 10 inches, Matted, Fine. -.
