Certo, quest?edizione, comme i commenti del F., è opera in cui la compilazione, non esente da farraginosità, prevale di gran lunga s…ulla ricerca di novità; ma molte edizioni e commenti, anche di quelli che noi usiamo quotidianamente, sono opere compilatorie. All?impegno e alla competenza il F. unisce un sano iudicium, che rende efficace il suo lavoro di vaglio. Credo che, in complesso, l?edizione critica del Barber sia più attendibile, ma quella del F. Le può stare dignitosamente accanto; in qualche caso egli sceglie meglio del cauto e acuto editore inglese. Chi oggi voglia leggere, nella misura concessaci dai fati (misura non ampia), un testo attendibile di Properzio, farà bene a tener presenti ambedue queste edizione critiche e, per le lezioni dei codici umanistici, quella dello Hanslik.? (ANTONIO LA PENNA in Gnomon, 1988, p.32).
