"Buffalo Bill" Cody sitting at table with Gordon "Pawnee Bill" Lillie. "Men knew the taste of real Bourbon whiskey then.", etc. Near fine poster with very short 1/4" tear at bottom and very mild crease, unnoticeable from the front, across part of the top. Great for a collection or for framing.

[36] pp. including wrappers. This souvenir booklet from Buffalo Bill's farewell tour is filled with tributes to Buffalo Bill who is "about to resign the honors of leadership.to his young and capable associate in pioneer work, Maj. Gordon W. Lillie, 'Pawnee Bill'."; illustrated in black and white throughout; interesting period advertising throughout; a few pages with corner creases. The condition of the book is NEAR FINE. Only five copies located on OCLC/WorldCat. RARE.

unbound. A check made out to "Major Lillie" for $1.00 and clearly endorsed on verso, "G.W. Lillie." 2.75 x 6.25 inches. Cancellation holes in center not affecting the signature. Washington D.C., March 1, 1935. Fine. "Pawnee Bill" was an Indian fighter and showman who became partners with William "Buffalo Bill" Cody.

Condition: Very Good+. York, PA: Swords Bro's, ca. 1880s. Original cabinet photograph (14x10cm) affixed to studio's captioned card mount (16.5x11cm.); photograph captioned "Pawnee Bill" in image. Two small shallow chips to left-hand margin of image, trivial spotting, else a Very Good or better example. Youthful portrait of the American Wild West showman Gordon William Lillie, a.k.a. Pawnee Bill (1860-1942), an accomplished performer in his own right whose fame grew substantially after his short-lived partnership with William "Buffalo Bill" Cody.

Unbound. Condition: Near Fine. Broadside. Measuring 6" x 9½". Printed in blue rectos only. Small paper remnants on the unprinted verso, likely removed from a scrapbook, else near fine. Pencil note on verso notes place and date: "Asbury Park, July '92." Pawnee Bill and his wife Mary started their show in 1888. It went through several permutations, some more successful than others, including a relatively brief partnership with Buffalo Bill Cody. A simple, if pleasing little broadside.

PS. 3 x 5 . No date. No place. A picture postcard of Pawnee Bill signed To my friend Cyrus W. Reed from G W Lillie Pawnee Bill on the verso. The image shows Lillie in full Western gear, and there are a couple minor chips to the emulsion on the left side. There is light waterstaining to the top portion of the inscription, but the signature is large and dark.

Pawnee Bill Archive of Signed Photos, Telegrams, Autograph Signed Letters and Notes, Check and Envelope 1913-1927 All items are sleeved and are generally in good to fine condition. Light toning mild wear and tear as typical of 100 plus year-old paper. Gordon William Lillie (1860 - 1942) was a showman and performer who specialized in Wild West shows including a short partnership with William "Buffalo Bill" Cody, plus his own "Pawnee Bill's Historic Wild West Show". Lillie acquired the nickname "Pawnee Bill" for his work with the Pawnee Indian agency in Indian Territory in the early 1880's. In 1883 he worked as the Pawnee interpreter with Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show. In 1888, Lillie and his wife May Manning launched "Pawnee Bill's Historic Wild West" show which ran through 1907. For the 1908 season, Pawnee Bill and Buffalo Bill Cody combined their shows, a move which lost money and led to foreclosure. Their legacy lives on with the annual Pawnee Bill Memorial Rodeo and a modern version of Pawnee Bill's Original Wild West Show at the Pawnee Bill Ranch and Museum in Pawnee, Oklahoma.
