Soft cover. Condition: Very Good +. First Edition. SUBTITLED : `The Trials of Robert Raymond Cook '. (a.k.a.- The Story of the Last Man Hanged in Alberta '. 449 pages, illustrated with b/w photographs. In 1960, small town central Alberta was a very unsofisticated and safe place to live. Stettler, Alix, Bashaw, Lacombe and Camros…e might have topped the list. Then a prisoner was released from Prince Alberta Penitentiary on special amnesty from the queen. Soon seven people were dead. This work analyses in exquisite detail the facts and the remaining mysteries of the apprehension of a culprit, the investigation, and the trial (two of those) and lays out the case for and against Robert Raymond Cook. Section of b/w photographjs at center. As hoped, there is : roadblock, escape, violence, conflicted witnesses, police errors, fast cars, courtroom, and old scores to be settled. ALL of it true. Author is a former lawyer; so the convuluted details of the Criminal Code are laid bare. Cond : Paper wrapper is white with red (and black) lettering. Front cover image is a computer-scan photo of R.R. Cook - aged 21. Volume is tight, bright, square and clean. No names, marks, creases, nor tears. Noticeable wear at many edges. Almost collectible copy ! ! Quote (p. 240) : " He told Main it was brand new and still pinned up, and Dunne that `it still had a cardboard thing around the collar and pastic over it '. Cook agreed with the Week evidence: he had worn the prison-issue shirt out ._._._. ." Size: 8vo. B/W Photographs (illustrator).
