Born in Aragon, Pedro Abarca (1619-1693) joined the Society of Jesus in 1641. He had a lifelong committent to religion and was a professor of theology at the Unvresity of Salamanca. Aunque de escasa extensión, su prosa narrativa posee singular importancia. Can Girona (1972) es el primer y único volumen de una inacabada serie de recuerdos de interés testimonial, escrita con prosa directa de gran expresividad. Su título más significativo es la novela corta El cura de Almuniaced (1952, acompañada de otros cuatro relatos; independiente en la edición española de 1979, con interesante prólogo de M. Andújar), rigurosa historia, plena de verdad humana, de la trágica muerte de un evangélico sacerdote en los primeros momentos de la guerra civil; muestra el desapasionamiento y la actitud objetiva del autor ante el recuerdo de la guerra, no muy frecuente entre escritores del exilio en una fecha que puede considerarse temprana.
