Deze orgelkunst - als unieke combinatie van kunst (orgelmuziek) en kunstnijverheid (orgelbouw) - vormt een veelzijdig en, tot voor kort, onbekend facet van onze cultuurgeschiedenis. De Nederlanden' zijn hier gebruikt in hun ruimste culturele begrenzing: de Zeventien Provinciën van Karel V en het Prinsbisdom Luik. Noord én Zuid hebben immers op vele momenten in de evolutie van muziek en instrument de richting van deze ontwikkeling bepaald. Reeds in de 14de eeuw kennen we de namen van Vlamingen die organist waren aan Franse vorstenhoven. Rond 1520 zou Hendrik Niehoff een wijde horizon openen voor de ontwikkeling van de orgelbouw inEuropa. In het midden der 16de eeuw zou met en rond de Vlaming A. Willaert te Venetië de eerste typische orgelmuziek ontstaan. Omstreeks 1600 is het J.P. Sweelinck die de nieuwe orgelvormen creëert die op hun beurt het i7de-eeuwse muziekleven in Noord-Duitsland zullen beheersen. De tekst geeft een synthese van het historisch onderzoek, de illustraties trachten een beeldroman te scheppen van de evolutie in het uiterlijk van het orgel: zij verlenen het boek bovendien een extra dimensie: door de hoge technische kwaliteit halen zij vaak de instrumenten uit hun donkere omgeving en stellen ze voor de eerste maal in het volle daglicht. Deze orgels blijken even waardige aspecten te zijn van ons cultuurbezit als de retabels, schilderijen, koorbanken en de vele andere vormen van kerkmeubilair.

This doesn't affect the appearance of the cover. The Seperate volume containg the two LPs is Fine. The Slipcas has a couple of hanling marks to side of case but is otherwise undamaged without any splits etc. a heavy volume which may require extra shipping costs. Pictures available.

Another book we've had to lower the price on due to competition on the Internet.
