This poster criticizes both the American armed forces and education system which promote and glorify military action.

A fiery photomontage poster advertising a rally that appears never to have taken place, perhaps because it was scheduled for the same day as the ticker-tape parade cel…ebrating the safe return of the Apollo Eleven astronauts. An interesting composition, somewhat out of character for Averill, most of whose graphic works emphasized her considerable drafting skills. Peg Averill (1949-1993) was a prominent and prolific East Coast artist/activist, known especially for her pacifist and anti-incarceration activism. One of seven posters created by Averill (1949-1993) for…the War Resisters League. The central image features a childlike figure decked out in military garb from various eras, standing in front of a chalkboard bearing a quote from Eugene Debs. A charming poster with a strong anti-conscription message. OCLC notes a single holding at Northwestern, though we find others at LC and the OMCA. 83038.
