Edition limited to 1000 copies, 12mo, pp. [14]; a very good copy in gray wrappers, vignette by Gill on front panel, some smudging and soil. Keepsake of the STA, reprinting an historical letter from Pepler "which reveals many unknown incidents" in the life of Eric Gill.

Condition: Fine. 12 mo pamphlet in sewn paper covers, ( 6 leaves), illustrated with engravings by Eric Gill, fine condition, loosely enclosed in light card covers, with title label (slightly browned around the edges), together with the prospectus (17 x 11cm) mounted on a sheet of card (25 x 32cm). Both items housed in a specially made cloth covered box with red leather title label. The box and the contents are in fine condition.

Pepler helped to organize an exhibition of GillÕs works at the Newberry Library in February, 1949. This letter was intended to be read at the exhibition, but was dropped from the program. ÒBecause of the historical significance of Mr. PeplerÕs letter, which reveals many unknown incidents, including some which concern the beginnings of GillÕs interest in wood engraving, it was decided to publish the letter as an STA keepsakeÓ (foreword). Small octavo. 10 pp. Stiff paper wraps. Small tear near top of spine. Else fine in pictorial dustjacket. First edition.

Measures 5 1/8 x 3 7/8 inches.

Hardcover. Condition: Fair. [viii], 72 pages. Numbered 109 of the 120 copies printed. In the original cloth covered boards, leather spine and printed paper lettering label to the front board. The spine is damaged and torn at the head. Paper label is browned and soiled. Bookplate to the front pastedown of Dunstan & Anne Pruden. Damp stained throughout, mainly to the lower outer corners and also to the upper inner corner. More heavily stained to pages at the rear. Bookbinder's ticket to the rear pastedown of T.B. Merrett Guild of Glos Craftsmen. Bookplate stained. Dunstan Pruden was a silversmith in the Guild of St Joseph and St Dominic at Ditchling. The bookplate was designed by Philip Hagreen.

Quarter blue leather over blue cloth boards, gilt lettering at spine, illustrations by Dunstan Pruden. Hilary D. C. Pepler was the founder of Saint Dominic's Press and an associate of Eric Gill and G. K. Chesterton. Very Good Plus, the boards a bit rubbed, text clean and bright.

Text in French, First edition, hardcover with leather binding, unnumbered copy after an edition of 120, has slight bumps to spine ends and board corners, a shallow chip at lower corner of first free endpage, very slight wear with faint sunning to board edges, touch of rubbing to leather binding, and hint of waving to edges of text block, otherwise a solid, tight VG copy in Good+ slipcase which has approx. 1" split to base of lower right seam at opening, slight bumps to corners, very light wear to edges with boards showing through in a few areas, and slight rubbing.

There is another bookplate on top of the first - this second bookplate has been partially removed, in such a way as to mess up both bookplates. Author's name written on the front endpaper by a previous owner. College library embossed stamp on title page and awful numbers and library name written on copyright page. 47 pages. Printed in good paper, edges left uneven. Small press imprint, but with these library marks on the title page. Otherwise good condition.
