The work of the Church of England Zenana Missionary Society (ie to women kept in purdah). Illustrated with plates and line drawings. Between the details of the specific missionary work, is much detail on the problems of educating girls and women, and helping women (particularly widows) to work. The problems of providing access to medical help is also detailed. Much can be made of the similarities made to life today. This is the March 1897 reprint of the Oct '97 1st edn.
