This book offers a fascinating journey into the world of late 19th-century photography, serving as both a catalogue and a historical record of the printing and photographic materials available from Percy Lund & Co., a prominent firm of the time. It meticulously details a wide array of products, from photographic printing paper and chemicals to studio equipment like backgrounds, furniture, and cutting-edge tools like the "Matchless Self-Lighting Gas Burner" and "Marshalls Patent Shutter." Beyond its commercial function, the catalogue provides a glimpse into the evolving practices and technologies that shaped the photographic landscape of the Victorian era. The author's emphasis on innovative products like the "Empire Patent Cloth" backgrounds and "Snowdrift Opals" highlights the era's pursuit of photographic excellence and artistic expression. The inclusion of testimonials and detailed instructions for using chemicals and equipment further underscores the book's value as a practical guide for both professional and amateur photographers of the period. This book's insights into the materials and methods of 19th-century photography offer a valuable resource for historians, photography enthusiasts, and anyone interested in understanding the evolution of this art form. By showcasing the tools and techniques of the past, it sheds light on the ingenuity and artistry that laid the foundation for modern photography.
