Frontis illus., 7 x 5", patterned cloth, 389pp, covers rubbed, extremities bumped and worn, spine darkened, former owner's bookplate and inkstamps on front endpapers, first few pp with some finger soiling but still a decent, readable copy of this SCARCE book; author's reminiscences of his stay in Japan.

First Edition. frontis; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; Bound in a striking design of brown cloth with Japanese character "types" in white to the full surface of the cloth and title lettering in red a Japanese inflected font. Sound decent copy but with cloth at spine dulled and fading. Light shelf bumping to boards at corners and with crimping and pull to cloth at spine ends. Prior ownership bookplate of the Metzger Institute Library, a short lived women's college that was part of Dickinson College from 1881 - 1912. Small paper catalog labels at spine. Twi signatures mid-book sprung and starting at front edge. Author's recollections and memories of residence in Japan. Decent copy. G+.

Previous owner's name and date (1890) pencilled in on front free endpaper, light dust soiling to top edge, somewhat faded along the spine, minor edge wear at the spine ends, else very good. No dust jacket. A solidly bound and reasonably well preserved copy.
