Unclipped and mylar-protected DJ is in good condition with heavy wear along top edge but no missing pieces or noticeable tears. Abernathy's inscription reads: "Inscribed for Mrs. Alfred I. / du Pont, with the high regards of / Thomas Perkins Abernathy / University of Virginia / July 13, 1955." Jessie Ball du Pont (1884-1970) was the third wife of Alfred I du Pont, American industrialist, financier, and philanthropist. Book.

Light green dust jacket with printed title and blurb on the front cover. Front hinge is cracked and cover is loose. Rear hinge has a small crack. Several news clippings regarding the book and author, some folded, are pasted down on the front and rear end sheets and the half title page. The right front flyleaf is chipped on the edge. Title page has a narrow thin section where some sort of paper was removed. The front and rear end sheets are toned brown from contact with the clippings. Interior contents are clean and unmarked. Dust jacket has a couple of small splits at the folds and light edge wear. Price of 3.50 printed on the front inner dust jacket flap. Inscribed on the right front flyleaf, "To Ida Robertson Abernethy the co-author from the main author Perkins." From the preface the author writes, "It is fitting that I should acknowledge here my indebtedness to Ida Robertson Abernethy, my wife, who edited and typed the entire work.".
