Oversized Hardcover. Condition: Good. A marvelous guide to the pleasures 'admired and ignored' of the manuscript book, that is: hand-made compilations of text and/or image. This portrait of a collection is 'a story of the survival of the pre-Gutenberg vision into the post-Gutenberg age': the materials surveyed range from a 1440s chained book to recent artist books, Mermaids by Matt Weber and Orgasm and Another Orgasm by Heide Hatry. A descriptive index at the back of the book provides a picture of the cover and records place as the primary characteristics, and also demonstrates Wechsler's organizing vision. Illustrated.
