Trade Paperback. Condition: Fine. First Edition. 94 Pages. No defects noted to this Gift Quality as new book. Interior text and illustration pages are flawless. Since the first cave dwellers drew on cave walls, pictorial storytelling has been a common role for the artist. Medieval stained glass windows and tapestries remind thei…r admirers even today that materials and processes long considered craft are among the most revered in the visual arts for their narrative power. After many centuries in which crafts were accorded a homely utilitarian status, today glass, clay, fiber, metal, and wood have regained full status for their expressive potential in the hands of creative artists. Storytelling is, once again, the province of the serious craft artist. This catalogue documents the rich narrative and figurative traditions of contemporary craft artists in the United States, from the turn of the century to the present. Beginning with earlier pieces that often documented historical, commemorative, or mythological events, Tales and Traditions then moves to today's work, which is often rich with personal imagery and socio-political commentary. Contents: Foreword, Preface, Introduction, Tales and Traditions 1750- 1950, Tales and Traditions 1950-1992, Catalogue, Checklist, and Acknowledgments.

Hardcover. Condition: As New. Dust Jacket Condition: Fine. First Edition. A woman living in the early part of the century orders all of her earthly possessions from a catalogue and finds redemption. A world-famous inventor creates a new taste. A hustler takes an hallucinatory trip to Baja, California. The owner of a wet mink coa…t tangles with voodoo on the Lower East Side of Manhattan. Well-known art critic and poet John Perreault has here constructed fables of extreme states of consciousness, icy-cold and fantastic tales that give sly voice to eccentric, inexpressible desires. Lies, death, and wild invention are deftly handled subjects of these glittering fictions. As new, unread copy, in burgundy cloth, in fine, mylar-protected dust jacket. L44.

Hard cover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. First edition. Catalogue of the exhibition at the Fuller Museum of Art, the OK Harris Gallery and the Arteindustrie Gallery, January - June 1998. Introduction by Jennifer Atkinson; statement by Ivan C. Karp; preface by Rick Kaufmann; essay by John Perreault. Erm…l, George (photographer); Tobin, Steve (photographer); Over 60 Color & b/w Photographs. "Steve Tobin, who has been referred to in print as a "visual philosopher," is based in Coopersburg, Pennsylvania. His vast repertoire includes works in glass, clay, bronze and steel. He explores natural forms and cites nature as his earliest influence, one that continues to inform his work. His creations have been shown internationally at such venues as the American Museum of Natural History; the Page Museum/La Brea Tar Pits and Los Angeles County Museum of Natural History; Carpe Diem Gallery in Paris; Retretti Art Center, Finland; Gallery 10, New York City; and Moore College of Art and Design, Philadelphia. His work is also part of permanent collections at the American Craft Museum; Philadelphia Museum of Art; American Glass Museum; and Musee des Arts Decoratifs, Switzerland. In 2007, a Tobin Steelroots creation was among the 40 sculptures chosen for the City of New York's "40 Years of Art in the Parks" retrospective, gracing the entrance to Prospect Park in Brooklyn. Tobin's Steelroots sculptures are an evolution of his signature bronze Walking Roots series. In 2005, the sculptor gained acclaim when his massive bronze "Trinity Root" sculpture was installed in the courtyard of St. Paul's Church in New York City, becoming the first and only 9/11 memorial near Ground Zero. The piece was cast from the stump and roots of a large sycamore tree that shielded St. Paul's Church from the collapsing towers and devastation of 9/11.".
