Keynes writes, "The formation of this anthology of poems on the song of the nightingale originated in my sudden realisation that two copper plates etched by Blake's friend George Cumberland, in 1784, carried a poem addressed 'To the Nightingale', wich could, with confidence, be attributed to Blake himslef.".
