The space we live in, reduced to a minimum, has been fascinating us for generations - the writer Thoreau lived in a self-built hut in the forest from 845 - 847. In 952, Le Corbusier built a hut at the Côte d'Azur for himself and his wife. Inspired by this, Urs Peter Flück…iger, together with his students, built an ecologically and economically sustainable cabin in the Texan prairie. All three projects share the idea of minimal space and its relationship with the surrounding nature. In text, drawings, and photographs, this book analyses the three projects and shows parallels and similarities. Inspired by Tolstoy's story How Much Land Does A Man Need?, the author asks: " How much house does a man need?" , thereby providing a pointed contribution to the current discussion on the requirement for housing. The current trend in minimalist living accommodation Bibliophilic production Unpublished photographs and drawings on Le Corbusier and Thoreau.

Hardcover. Condition: new. Hardcover. Donald Judd was one of the most important exponents of American Minimal Art. Among the lesser-known aspects of his work are the numerous built architectural projects in which he explores the relationship between architecture art, furniture, and landscape. One particular location was of great… significance to Judd's architectural work: Fort D.R. Russell, a former US military base in the Chihuahuan desert on the southern edge of the pioneer town of Marfa, Texas. Judd acquired the fort and other structures in Marfa which he systematically converted into one of the largest ensemble collections of contemporary art in the world. This new edition updates and expands on the successful book of 2 7. It presents two additional building complexes southwest of Marfa and includes a new epilogue by the author, which places Judd's built architectural work from its beginning at Spring Street, Judd's studio and residence in New York, and the structures in Marfa in a contemporary context. Paperback. Condition: new. Paperback. Dazai Shundai (16801747) is a critical figure in Japanese political thought, who developed his philosophy in response to a perceived crisis in the status of the ruling samurai class, of which he was a member. This volume introduces sections from his most significant work of political thought…, Keizairoku (1729), and its addendum Keizairoku shui (1744). Extracts present Shundai's program of political and economic reform, as he grappled with the upheavals and opportunities accompanying the breakdown of feudal agrarianism and the emergence of a modern commercial economy. While Shundai accepted the inevitability of this economic transition, his vision of political economy remained conservative, with a focus on strengthening samurai-class supremacy. Peter Flueckiger offers a critical introduction to Shundai's ideas, exploring the nuances of his engagement with Confucian thought, and extensive annotations provide further textual and historical context. This volume thus demonstrates how Shundai's writings prefaced increasingly ambitious theories of state-managed economic growth in early modern and modern Japan. This volume introduces the pathbreaking writings on political economy by the Japanese Confucian scholar Dazai Shundai (16801747). Focusing on Shundai's texts Keizairoku (1729) and its addendum Keizairoku shui (1744), it explores Shundai's anticipation of the transition from agrarianism to commerce in early modern Japan.
