VINTAGESTAN BOOKS Title: A History of Ely Cathedral by Peter Meadows and Nigel Ramsay Summary: A History of Ely Cathedral, edited by Peter Meadows and Nigel Ramsay is a comprehensive history of Ely Cathedral and the religious community surrounding it. The book traces Ely from its origins as a Saxon religious settlement in 672 through the medieval monastery, Reformation, Victorian restoration, and the cathedral's life at the end of the 20th century. This makes the book particularly valuable because it combines architectural history with social, religious, institutional and cultural history. The contents include contributions from specialists in medieval history, archaeology, architecture, music, theology and archival studies.
