Condition: Good. 1954. 224 pages. No dust jacket. Blue cloth with gilt lettering. Pages are lightly tanned and thumbed at the edges, with light foxing. Binding has remained firm. Boards are a little rub worn, slight shelf wear to corners, spine and edges. Corners are a little bumped. Spine ends are mildly crushed. Light tanning to spine and edges. Boards are bowed. Book has a forward lean.

Voyage started in Shanghai, 15th April 1938, towards the West coast of the Americas. Return via the South Pacific, leaving from Peru in 1941. Call in the Marquesas, Pago Pago. Shipwrecked on Sudest Island near Rossel Island (South East Papua), then arrival at Samarai 25th October 1941. After the attack on Pearl Harbor, Dr Petersen joined the New Guinea Volunteers.

The story of an American doctor and his wife who sailed a Chinese junk across the Pacific, down the West coasts of the United States, Cental and South America, and back west-ward through the South Pacific Islands. Desperate to escape the Japanese bombing of Shanghai in 1938, Petersen, his wife, and two crew members set sail across the Pacific to Los Angeles in a Chinese junk, Hummel Hummel. After arrival in San Pedro, the harbor of Los Angeles, the Hummel Hummel and crew sailed down the west coasts of the United States, Central and South America, and westward to the South Pacific islands.
