N. Mogali, G. Petroschi (illustrator). Map. Engraving. Image measures 15 1/2" x 21". Scarce, detailed topographical map of remaining landmarks of Ancient Rome. Many sites are shown pictorially and labeled on the map, and 77 others are referred by number to an index with corresponding titles. Relief is show by hachure. This map was published in Abate Ridolfino Venuti's "Accurata Succinta Descrizzione Topografica delle Antichita di Roma", a 1763 book describing the topography of ancient Rome. Original fold lines as issued. The map has some toning but otherwise in very good condition. Right margin is torn and partially incomplete. Abbot Ridolfino Venuti (1705-1763) was an Italian draftsman, archaeologist, and historian. He served Pope Benedict XIV as president of Roman Antiquities and deputy of Excavation.
Carta geografica del Mar Caspio, entro margine graduato, dal disegno di Reiner Ottens incisa dal Petroschi. L'orografia è trattata a coni di talpa con illuminazione obliqua da ovest. Vengono indicati i territori circostanti, individuati da una linea confinale punteggiata. Molto interessante l'indicazione della struttura viaria che metteva in comunicazione i vari centri abitati, più o meno grandi. Nell'angolo in basso a sinistra sono riportate le scale grafiche in "Miliaria Italica 60 in un gradu", "Mensurae Russicae quarum 80 in uno gradu", "Milliaria Germanica 15 in uno gradu" e "Milliaria Persica 60 in un gradu". Lungo le sponde del Mar Caspio affacciano gli attuali Stati: Azerbaigian, Iran, Kazakistan, Russia e Turkmenistan. Ottimo lo stato di conservazione generale.
