Lovely struck copperplate engraving of this mounted "Arquebusier" one of several on this short lived regiment [1744-48] painted and engraved by Del la Rue and Paul Aveline. Light demi-lune brown spot on left hand edge about halfway down the image, trimmed at edges but thin border still visible. Legend underneath within the plate and the number 5 lower right corner. Measures 13 x 8 inches ( 32 x 20 cm) approx. *Simon Claude Grassin de Glatigny formed this regiment in 1744 by 1749 it was disbanded and the troops amalgamated into the "Volontaires des Flandres". This image was one of 5 we believe he had engraved and is part of the work "History of France" He was born in 1718 and died in 1780, he only worked until illness until 1756.
