Autograph leaf from a volume of sermons by Philip Doddridge, the running headline reading 'W xxi The Pastoral Care': pages 27 & 28, being the conclusion of section 12 and (very brief) section 13 through 17, with the first page of 18. 1 leaf affixed in the middle to a fairly stiff piece of paper, with p. 28 facing out. There is a staple in the bottom margin with the remains of what seems to have been a bookseller's description of the leaf. Section 17 reads as follows" Proportion your Regard to the Members of your Flock in Visiting, to the Importance they are of to the Interest of Christ. Visit much Persons in any Distress. English non-conformist clergyman, was born one of twenty children in a family with strong, religious convictions. He attended a dissenting academy at Kibworth run by a local minister, because the university education he was offered contained the stipulation he he conform to the established church. At Kibworth he pastored fora time, and eventually became principal of the academy. Finally both he and the academy moved to Northampton where the academy became a training center for Non-conformist leaders. Theologically speaking, Dodderidge steered the middle course between Calvinism and Arminianism. The evangelical revival, which had begun in England, influenced his spiritual life and reflected in his hymns and in his book "On the Rise and Progress of Religion in the Soul." 28" x 20" Plus 2 original sermons 1751 Sermon printed in London 36 pages PLUS 1752 His Funeral sermon by Job Orton published in London Both leather bound.
