Milne, Tannahill & Methven, Perth, 1918; 175 x 245mm; pp 137; lavender paper wrappers, now faded on the outside to pinkish-brown; wrappers somewhat frayed in places on the edges and with two 2cm pieces missing at the head and the foot; faded handwritten note of presentation to E G de Montmorency on the front cover, signed D.R.P. and most likely D Rhys Phillips, the unanimously elected Hon. Secretary; corners slightly dog eared internally but otherwise firm and generally clean. Photographic frontispiece of (the then late) Miss Sophia Morrison, Secretary of the Manx Society. Preface by E T John. . . . This is the formal report of the first meeting of what was to become the Celtic Congress). Convened by the Welsh Nationalist MP for East Denbighshire, Edward John, and held during the Birkenhead Eisteddfod, the aim was to bring together Celts and to present relevant papers from prominent representative of the different Celtic nations or communities. The papers were given by T Gwynn Jones of Wales, Prof. S P MacEnri of Ireland, Rev. G W Mackay of Scotland, Pierre Mocaer of Brittany, Dr P Diverre, William Cubbon of the Isle of Mann [sic], Henry Jenner from Cornwall and Morvran Goblet from the Celtic Society of Paris. These papers are all included as are addresses by Lord Ashbourne and the MP W Llewelyn Williams and notes on discussions, resolution, the proposed Celtic Union, and other matters. Scarce.
