    A Handy Reference for Lawyers in Massachusetts and Maine Phillips, Willard, Primary Editor. A Digest of Pickering's Reports, From the Second to the Eighth Volume, Inclusive. Boston: Richardson, Lord and Holbrook, 1831. xxxix, 434 pp. Octavo (9-3/4" x 6"). Contemporary sheep, blind fillets to boards, lettering piece and blind fillets to spine, blind tooling to board edges. A few minor nicks and some minor spotting to boards, some rubbing to extremities, wear to foot of spine, corners bumped and somewhat worn, early owner stamp (A.H. Ware) to front free endpaper and title page, which also has an early owner signature (J.T. Leavitt). Text has light to moderate toning, light foxing in a few places. $50. * Only edition. Arranged alphabetically by topic, this book digests cases in Pickering's Reports of Cases Argued and Determined in the Supreme Judicial Court of Massachusetts from 1823 to 1829. Two of this book's former owners were likely James Tufton Leavitt [1804-1857], a Maine attorney and politician who served in both branches of the state legislature, and Albert Harris Ware [1827-1893], an attorney who practiced in North Anson, Maine.
