Anthony Trollope (1815-1882), noted English novelist and civil servant of the Victorian era wrote 47 novels, an autobiography, a book on William Makepeace Thackeray, a book on Lord Palmerston, five travel books, and 42 short stories. Can You Forgive Her? is the first of the six books comprising Trollope's "Palliser" series, more commonly known as the Parliamentary novels. The common characters throughout the series are the wealthy aristocrat and politician Plantagenet Palliser, and his wife, Lady Glencora. The plots involve British and Irish politics in varying degrees, specifically in and around Parliament. Hablot Knight Browne (10 July 1815 8 July 1882) was a British artist and illustrator. Well known by his pen name, Phiz, he illustrated books by Charles Dickens, Charles Lever, Augustus Septimus Mayhew and Harrison Ainsworth.
