W. Plâté & Co. was a prominent photographic studio in Ceylon (now Sri Lanka), founded in 1890 by Alfred William Amandus Plâté, a German-born apothecary. The Plâté firm was instrumental in popularizing photography on the island and quickly became renowned for its high-quality photographic postcards, capturing the island's landscapes, people, and daily life during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. By 1907, their annual postcard production reached half a million.
