L'autore spiega così il motivo del suggestivo titolo: Per esprimere con una voce la diferenza di molti stili, e per alluder' insieme alla varietà de' Poetici colori qui spaesi, Iride intitolai questo mio Libro. Il Perellio, o, più esattamente, Pierelli (1630-1707), nativo di Trassilico, in Garfagnana, fu letterato, poeta (si firmò anche con l'anagramma Giuniano Elpireo), diplomatico e segretario di Raimondo Montecuccoli. Manca alla Vinciana e al Belloni. Sconosciuto a SBN / ICCU, che censisce solo una ristampa lucchese del 1669 (La sampogna del pastor Elpireo con la Fionda, e l'Iride poetica). Italiano.
