La ricerca dell'autore ha messo in luce l'importanza di Giovanni Pierelli, nato a Trassisilico intorno al 1630, uomo di grande ingegno con una cultura vasta e multiforme, autore di molte opere letterarie, ricco di fantasia e dotato di spirito d'avventura. Doti che lo fecero apprezzare nel mondo tanto da diventare segretario di uno dei personaggi più importanti dell'epoca Raimondo Montecuccoli, valoroso condottiero e letterato, protagonista dell'Europa del seicento.

In-12° (138x77mm), 244, (2), legatura del tempo p. pergamena con titolo manoscritto in antico alla cuffia superiore. Frontespizio riquadrato con titolo e fregio floreale in xilografia. Fregi tipografici xilografici. Precede un sonetto all'autore di Andrea Caputo. Indice finale. Annotazioni antiche ai contropiatti, all'occhietto e al frontespizio. Mancanze marginali non lesive del testo alle ultime cc. Buon esemplare. Prima edizione, rarissima. L'autore spiega così il motivo del suggestivo titolo: Per esprimere con una voce la diferenza di molti stili, e per alluder' insieme alla varietà de' Poetici colori qui spaesi, Iride intitolai questo mio Libro. Il Perellio, o, più esattamente, Pierelli (1630-1707), nativo di Trassilico, in Garfagnana, fu letterato, poeta (si firmò anche con l'anagramma Giuniano Elpireo), diplomatico e segretario di Raimondo Montecuccoli. Manca alla Vinciana e al Belloni. Sconosciuto a SBN / ICCU, che censisce solo una ristampa lucchese del 1669 (La sampogna del pastor Elpireo con la Fionda, e l'Iride poetica). Italiano.
