Cette brochure a été publiée en 1804 à l'occasion de la querelle qui a opposé le jeune Canton de Vaud aux principales familles seigneuriales, encore détentrices de droits féodaux. Désireux de mettre fin au système des lods, le Petit Conseil rencontre une vive résistance de certains seigneurs, dont celui de Begnins, Ami Rigot (1760-1827), qui est condamné devant un tribunal pour avoir protesté publiquement contre la nouvelle loi.
