Paperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book is a primary source of historical events that shaped outcomes for the city-state of Venice. A historical account of events beginning in the 14th century provides the backdrop for this text, which details the political and social turmoil that plagued the Republic during the 1700s. A Venetian journalist, the author provides insights into how the Venetian government lost its standing as a world power, and the complex motivations of the individuals who precipitated this decline. Although times have changed and many of the problems and characters that the author focuses on are no longer part of the modern world, their influence shaped how the Venetian Republic existed in the centuries that followed, and provide valuable insights into the author's perspective and the social, political, and economic headwinds the Republic faced at the time of its writing. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.…

Trenta incisioni in rame e tre litografie a piena pagina, di vari autori e incisori. Cfr. Cicogna 639. (EN) In-folio (103) unnumbered leaves, of which 30 full-page plates etched by Francesco Del Pedro and Ignazio Colombo and Giovanni del Pian, based on drawings by Gian Domenico Tiepolo, Francesco Maggiottto, Pietro Novelli, Giacomo Guarana, Luigi Sabatelli and Francesco Gallimberti, and 2 lithograph plates by Aliense and Dalola, and Bandinelli and Marcovich. Modern half canvas, spine gusset with gold titles. Some very small remnants of old adhesive tape; slight occasional foxing. Definitely good example of an absolutely uncommon volume: the engravings had already been published between 1796 and 1797 under the same title, but without any historical description; the branches, purchased by the publisher Fontana, were edited again and Abbot Pasini accompanied them with an erudite historical description, expanding it beyond the Conspiracy of Baiamonte Tiepolo, the table with which the eighteenth-century work concluded. Some lithographs were also added, two of which are present in our copy. Cicogna 639. 19mo secolo.…
