Die DS von Citroën war das erfolgreiche Nachfolgemodell des ebenfalls sehr erfolgreichen Citroën Traction Avant, der uns aus zahlreichen Gangsterfilmen immer noch gegenwärtig ist. Die DS war seiner Zeit nicht nur im Design Voraus, sondern auch in vielen technischen Details, die allerdings zur Zeit der Markteinführung noch nicht alle im Detail ausgereift waren. Zu den technischen Neuerungen zählten z.B. eine besondere Lenkgeometrie, eine vorn breiter Spurbreite als hinten, eine hydraulische Federung mit Höhenniveauregulierung, eine Panoramawindschutzscheibe, eine herausragende Bremsanlage, eine maximale Rundumsicht und ein Gewicht sparendes Einspeichen - Lenkrad. Ab 1967 kamen zusätzliche Fernscheinwerfer hinzu, die synchron zur Lenkung die Kurven ausleuchten konnten. Das Auto wurde trotz eines hohen Preises insgesamt im Zeitraum von 1955 bis 1975 in 1,3 Millionen Exemplaren gebaut. Die fantastische Straßenlage, der außergewöhnliche Fahrkomfort und das zukunftsweisende aerodynamische Design machten das Automobil noch in der Produktionszeit schnell zu einer Ikone der Automobilgeschichte. Die extravagante und avantgardistische Form entwickelte der berühmte Chefdesigner Flaminio Bertoni, der auch bereits für den berühmten Citroën 2CV (Ente) federführend war. Leider wird in diesem Buch die interessante Historie bezüglich der technischen und gestalterischen Arbeit überhaupt nicht erläutert. In diesem Zusammenhang lieferte allerdings der Fernsehsender arte in der Reihe Design einen bisher unbekannten Blick auf die Entwicklung dieses Wunderwerks. Selbst die Vorteile der Technik werden hier noch als Lebensretter Charles de Gaulles bei einem Attentatsversuch dargestellt, da der Citroën aufgrund seiner Hydraulik in der Lage ist auch auf zwei Reifen bei diagonaler Anordnung zu fahren. Dieses Buch ist kein Buch für technisch oder historisch Interessierte am Citroën DS. Es ist ein wunderbares fotografisches Portrait einzelner Citroen DS Modelle. Dazu zählen auch einige Sonderformen der berühmten Karosserieschmiede Chapron. Dargestellt werden folgende TypenDS19, ID19, ID20, DSpecial, DSuper, DS21, DS23, DS Cabriolet, ID Break, DS Prestige, Chapron Coupes, Chapron Limousinen, DS Prototype Gruppe 5, Tissier DS, Bossaert GT 19, Michelin ID 27, Michelin PLR. Ein ähnlich schönes fotographisches Werk wurde vom Verlagshaus Heel auch einzelnen Klassikern der Firma Opel vor einigen Jahren in einem Buch gewidmet. Nach seiner Schulbildung an der Gelehrtenschule des Johanneums nahm Plath, wie sein Bruder Christian, 1813 und 1814 bei den Bremen-Verdenschen Husaren unter Oberstleutnant von dem Bussche mit der Deutschen Legion am Feldzug gegen die Franzosen teil. Nach dem Frieden erlernte er von 1815 bis 1819 die Handlung in Hamburg und von 1820 bis 1822 in Magdeburg. Da ihm das kaufmännische jedoch nicht zusagte, studierte er ab 1823 Medizin an der Friedrichs-Universität in Halle an der Saale. 1826 promovierte er hier bei Kurt Sprengel (1766-1833) zum Doktor der Medizin. Er ließ sich dann in Hamburg als Kinderarzt und Geburtshelfer nieder. 1857 zog er sich als Rentner nach Braunschweig zurück und widmete sich seinen literarischen Arbeiten.
