DETAILS: PAPERBACK, good red paperback, top corner of pages is bumped with 3cm triangle where pages were pushed in slightly and bounced back, with black printed titles and separate white printed dust-jacket which has some foxing on reverse and small chips and tears around edges. INSCRIBED To Mr. Styles Bridges / h.S. Senator from New Hampshire / with distinguished esteem / Boston July 12, 1961 / and SIGNED Jenö Platthy. PLATTHY, JENO. Summer Flowers. New York - Tokyo: Information Publishing Ltd., 1960, 372pp., . Book of poems in English - Printed in Japan. Includes frontispiece photo of the author. - A member of the Hungarian P.E.N Club, he left his native country at the time of the Hungarian Incident. He came to Japan in 1957, as a political refugee and made a sensational speech at the International P.E.N Conference at Tokyo about the uprising. A successful composer and poet, Platthy took great interest in things Japanese. During his sojourn, he composed the operetta "Taketori Monogatari (Tale of Ta-ketori)" for the Takarazuka Girls Opera Corps. He now works at International Institute of Boston, 190, Beacon St., Boston 16, Mass., U.S.A. - this is the third book of poems by the author. The first was published in Budapest twelve years ago. He has had published half-a-dozen books in the Free World, meanwhile representing his native country at the SEATO Conference 1957 and in other international conferences. He is widely traveled, going the world almost every year, holding lectures and giving interviews. The seventh part of this book is a reprint of his famous volume, entitled "From Budapest to Tokyo" (published in Tokyo, 1957, for the XXIX International P.E.N. Congress and edited by Miss C. Biro and Prof. J. G. Mills), which has become, since that time, out a of print. The poems, in their spirit, almost oppose "Les Fleurs du Mal" of Baudelaire, for they are the flowers of goodness, flowers of the intention to be better. And they bloom, blossom in their entire pomp at noon time in the summer of our life or, it might be guessed, of humanity.
