FitzHerbert Black Castle Navan'The Fitzherbert family were descended from Lord Stafford, who was beheaded by Charles II in 1680. The 'B' likely indicates Bertie Fitzherbert, who died in 1939, and upon whose death the annual tradition of guarding Black Castle against the opposing Ruxton family on St Peter's Day - the 29th June - ceased.Dated from copies held by the British Library Bound in original cloth. Externally, very smart. Mild shelf wear. Occasional fading to spines. The odd mark to boards. Internally, firmly bound. Pages generally bright and clean, with the odd spot.
